SWOOP

He likes to watch the birds on the wire,
The swoop, the dip, the grip, the bounce.
They happily ride the disturbance of the cable
All motion blur, intangible.

The endless friction is mesmerising
A million transactions all at once and all at ease.

The perpetual vibration boggles and beckons.
Spinning into the endless, into eternity.
Entire livelihoods pass him by, only echoes now.
Remembrances of conversations,
Irrelevant but irreplaceable.

A clatter of jackdaws will break the silence,
Slicing the wind and surfing around.
Until once and for all they start circling to pounce
The swoop, the dip, the grip, the bounce.
